We live in a world bombarded with information. Extreme examples of awesomeness, success, and fulfillment. Everyone seems happy.

But, what if it was actually hard work to get to the top. What if things don’t always go your way? How do you keep a growth mindset and can-do attitude? How do you turn the worst moments of your life into the best ones?

I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure it out.

Here are two things I do know:

  1. I don’t need to be perfect. I don’t even need to be the best version of me. I just have to be better than yesterday. One day at a time.
  2. I don’t have to know all of the answers. In fact, one thing I learned from teaching new subjects was you only had to be a few lessons ahead of your students. And, the more you taught the same subject, the more you learned about that topic, and the better you got at understanding it (and how to teach it.)

Here’s the best thing about the interweb. It’s filled with people on soapboxes sharing their ideas. At last count, there were over 5 billion pages.

In short, there’s a lot we can learn from the voices on the internet.

After a decade of trying to teach critical thinking skills to students, and character education moments, I’m starting to wonder if success comes down to 4 things:

  • Using Strategies,
  • Making a real Effort,
  • Optimizing what you do, and
  • Tinkering.

I need to learn about how to be successful. In life. In business. In taking care of me.

Climbing mountains ain’t easy. But I hear the view up there is breathtaking.

SEOT.ca is where I hope to write about things I learn. Stay tuned.
